Hello! My name is Derek, I’m an illustrator and photographer currently based in Portland, Maine. My focus is on biology, environmentalism, and speculative evolution.

The natural world, both extant and extinct, are of great inspiration to my work. It holds a certain level of reverence to me that I try to capture in the pieces I make, as well as be a source to extrapolate off of to create something narratively interesting and biologically feasible within the realm of fiction.

My goal is to spark interest and empathy in life beyond ourselves, whether that be through documenting the intricate beings we share a planet with or exploring the extraordinary possibilities of what could be through illustration.
